Overwatch 2 Developers Announce Mid-Season Patch Nerfs for D.Va, Sombra, and Additional Tanks in Season 12

Overwatch 2’s Lead Hero Designer has confirmed that multiple balance changes are forthcoming for the mid-Season 12 patch in September.

As Overwatch 2 Season 12 reaches its mid-point, a significant balance update is imminent and will be implemented alongside the World of Warcraft crossover on September 17.

In a recent developer blog post, Hero Designer Alec Dawson revealed several substantial adjustments aimed at modifying the game’s meta, including nerfs to D.Va, who has been dominating the leaderboards.

D.Va has been a formidable force in Season 12, leveraging armor buffs and her impressive mobility to overpower opponents.

Dawson mentioned that tanks have become significantly harder to counter due to recent buffs, and therefore, adjustments to their strength are necessary. “Since our larger Tank patch in 2.11.1, Tank survivability has increased, making it challenging to effectively punish Tanks (especially D.Va). We aim to dial back some of that power, focusing on Armor efficiency and the defensive abilities granted to the Tank role,” he stated. “Expect those changes and more to come next week.”

The OW2 team has additional nerfs planned for Sombra.

Additionally, the developer indicated that further updates may be on the horizon for Sombra. The balance team is considering nerfs to her Stealth duration along with other components of her kit, although specifics were not provided.

Dawson also discussed the latest hero, Juno, mentioning that she has been situated in the “safe side of strong” category since her buff at launch.

“It’s still early, but there are indications that her speed may prove to be more advantageous in tighter corridors rather than in open areas,” he explained, noting that the team has been observing the OWCS Korea playoffs and anticipates seeing Juno paired with Brigitte or Ana.

The developer stated that no immediate adjustments to Juno are planned, but there may be changes to her ultimate ability as her performance continues to be monitored.

Stay tuned for additional information as the patch draws near. For D.Va players, it might be wise to take advantage of the current state of the tank before the nerf hits.
