Despite the numerous changes made to Heroes, maps, and Competitive mode in recent seasons, Overwatch 2 is still undergoing significant updates. The developers have hinted at more tweaks in the future, showing that they are not yet finished with their efforts to improve the game.
The Overwatch Coach had a discussion with Lead Hero Designer Alec Dawson regarding Tank updates, a Hanzo rework, and other topics.
Hanzo Rework
The Overwatch 2 developers are considering making some adjustments to Hanzo, with their main focus being on reworking Storm Arrows and potentially restoring his ability to eliminate enemies with just one shot.
“According to Dawson, he seems to have lost his sense of self within the cast. Currently, we are considering what his identity may be in the future.”
The devs are looking to make some changes to Hanzo in future.
Dawson did not provide specific details about future changes to Hanzo, but he did mention that the developers were considering adjusting the health pools of certain challenging Heroes. This would inadvertently increase his one-shot potential and provide a much-needed buff, according to the developers.
Tank Buffs & Changes
The next Overwatch 2 Hero scheduled for adjustments is Mauga. According to Dawson, the focus is on examining Cardiac Overdrive and its effectiveness in setting Heroes on fire. The goal is to increase the incentive for diving these characters.
It is unlikely that we will witness the Mauga changes in the near future as the developers are currently working on it as a long-term project.
Mauga is also looking like he’ll get some changes.
Winston and Reinhardt were also mentioned, as it appears the developers have planned some buffs for them. The specific timing was not specified, but Dawson stated that the team is currently working on adjustments for both Tanks to improve their capability in making plays.
To elaborate, Reinhardt may see the return of his 300 damage charge, while Winston’s Ultimate ability and secondary fire are also undergoing some enhancements.
Updates to Creative Commons
In regards to Tanks, they have faced challenges in Overwatch 2 due to the presence of powerful CC abilities. This is especially true for Wrecking Ball, who boasts impressive survivability but is vulnerable to being disabled by a hack or sleep dart.
Consequently, the development team has been examining potential changes to some fundamental aspects of Overwatch 2. Dawson hinted at the possibility of a universal nerf for crowd control abilities.
This involves reducing the impact of Ana’s sleep dart on Tank Heroes and prolonging the activation time for Sombra’s Hack.
Although the updates discussed in this interview may be subject to change, it is reassuring to hear that the developers are currently focused on improving Heroes and abilities to enhance the game’s overall gameplay experience. As soon as any updates are officially confirmed, we will promptly inform you.
