According to Overwatch 2’s Lead Balance Designer, Josh Noh, Sombra poses the greatest challenge in terms of balancing due to her distinctive abilities.
During a Reddit AMA on May 23, 2024, hosted by the Overwatch Hero design team, a community member posed a question about the most difficult character to balance and adjust.
According to Noh, Sombra posed a challenge in terms of balancing for the game due to her invisibility, which limits her potential strength.
Noh explained that balancing Sombra is a challenge due to her permanent invisibility, which limits how powerful she can be. Additionally, she is a hero who thrives when working closely with her team.
In a coordinated team, Sombra can be a formidable force and is particularly effective in Dive compositions. However, in a Ranked game where communication is lacking, Sombra’s capabilities become limited as it becomes more challenging to execute successful dives on individual targets.
Noh also pointed out that there are multiple other Heroes whose performance statistics greatly vary from the community’s perception, creating challenges in balancing them.
Even though he did not explicitly mention any names, gamers in the comment section speculated that characters such as Reinhardt, Sojourn, Orisa, and Kiriko could potentially be the Heroes he was alluding to.
Despite their lack of popularity, Sojourn and Orisa have consistently been strong picks in the meta for several seasons.
Reinhardt is consistently ranked as one of the top Tanks across all levels, according to Overbuff, yet many players consider him to be one of the least desirable tanks to play.
However, it is important to mention that during the AMA, Noh stated that while the stats from Overbuff may not provide a complete picture, their data on win rates closely matched those of Blizzard’s internal stats.
