Overwatch is set to offer an extensive collection of cosmetics, including full Mythic skins, as a special giveaway targeted at select players.
Since the launch of Overwatch 2, players have been treated to a continuous stream of cosmetics available for purchase, featuring intricate Mythic skins enhanced with unique visual effects only accessible via battle passes. A notable aspect of these cosmetics is their limited availability, often leading to situations where players might miss out on certain skins, possibly facing long waits or the disappointment of never obtaining them.
This situation was particularly significant for Overwatch players in China. In 2023, all Blizzard games, including Overwatch, faced a complete shutdown in China due to unsuccessful negotiations between Blizzard Entertainment and their publishing partner, NetEase. However, a recent announcement has revealed that Overwatch will be returning to China, backed by a new partnership with NetEase. Alongside this return, Blizzard has introduced an impressive compensation package to address the loss of access during the shutdown period.
Extensive Cosmetic Rewards for Chinese Players
Players resuming their journey in China, alongside newly registered users, will benefit from a generous compensation package. This includes a staggering 966 unique cosmetics that were made available between the game’s initial suspension and its recent revival. Among these offerings are 9 Mythic skins previously locked behind battle passes.
In addition to the Mythic skins, players will gain access to all previously unobtainable items from every battle pass, including content from both free and paid tiers. However, some rewards are contingent upon completing specific tasks, such as pre-registration or in-game events.
Among the notable skins included in this giveaway are classic favorites such as Mercy’s Valkyrie skin and skins from the widely-celebrated Mirrorwatch event, which presented characters from Overwatch in villainous roles or alternatively as heroic figures.
Unfortunately, players from other regions will not be eligible for these rewards. Unless one chooses to engage with Chinese servers, the majority of these cosmetic items will remain locked behind a paywall. Nonetheless, this generous compensation package represents a commendable move by Blizzard, highlighting an ongoing commitment to support the player base in that region moving forward.
