Overwatch 2 Players Frustrated by the Convoluted Competitive Points System

Competitive Points are one of the several currencies that players can acquire in Overwatch 2, however, they have received criticism from fans regarding their functionality.

In Overwatch 2, players can use Competitive Points to unlock weapon variants by participating in Competitive matches. The concept of Legacy Competitive Points was first introduced by the developers during Season 9, where Comp Points would convert into this form once a Competitive season ended.

Prior to Season 10 of Overwatch 2, both methods of purchasing weapon variants were available. However, the recent update has restricted the purchasing of new weapon variants to only using Comp Points.

Currently, numerous players are expressing their dissatisfaction with the Comp Point system. One fan, after accumulating a large amount, voiced frustration over losing approximately 2,000 points, which were converted into Legacy Points.

Regrettably, the points would have sufficed to acquire a Jade weapon, however, they are no longer valid since the Competitive season has concluded. The Legacy Points can now only be used to purchase weapon versions from past seasons.

The majority of the responses agreed that the player was not a fan of the divided points system. One user even provided their own point count for comparison, stating, “It’s especially frustrating. I have 1.4K old points and 1.6K new points.”

Fans were not only frustrated by the change, but the concept of multiple currencies was also discouraging enough for this particular fan to consider not playing: “There are too many currencies to keep track of. And now my rewards are inaccessible. It’s making me lose interest in playing.”

Obtaining the necessary amount of Comp Points has been a challenge for players as well. In fact, one response expressed frustration with the low reward of +10 points for a win and the absence of end of season bonus points.

Despite criticism, there were also commenters who supported Blizzard’s decision to alter the mechanics of Competitive Points. One individual stated, “The implementation of the new currency system prevents veteran players from purchasing green weapons during the initial weeks of the year.”

Similarly, another player criticized the post as “Insane thread”and “aimless ragebait nonsense,”while also providing their reasoning for why Blizzard divided the points as mentioned in the previous reply.

Despite the addition of the Legacy and Comp Points system, fans continued to voice their dissatisfaction with other aspects of the season. Criticisms of the new hero Juno have labeled her as “useless,”while Sombra’s buffs have been deemed “unfun”by players.
