Recently, Aaron Keller, the game director for Overwatch 2, shared an exciting teaser regarding the upcoming Season 15 theme, coinciding with the game’s re-entry into the Chinese market. This revitalization follows a new partnership between Blizzard Entertainment and NetEase, effectively restoring Overwatch 2 to Chinese players after a period of absence due to prior negotiation breakdowns. As part of this return, players are being offered a generous compensation package, which includes limited-time cosmetics that were previously unavailable.
Exciting Developments for Season 15
In a video on Xiaohongshu, also known as Rednote, Keller hinted at new in-game events and cosmetic offerings tied to this significant development in China. Notably, many of these events will be exclusive to the Chinese audience, with opportunities for players to earn previously offered Mythic skins from earlier battle passes.
Additionally, players worldwide can anticipate brand-new skin bundles celebrating the upcoming Lunar New Year. While Keller did not delve into specifics regarding new playable content, he did mention skin bundles that are “inspired by Chinese mythology,” generating much anticipation within the community.
Historically, Overwatch has celebrated the Lunar New Year with an engaging event, typically running from late January to early February. In the previous year, players were rewarded with unique cosmetics like the Year of the Dragon player icon and a new skin for Mercy. However, Season 2023 lacked fresh cosmetic additions, leaving players hopeful for renewed offerings in the upcoming season.
While Keller did not specify if the overall theme of Season 15 will draw heavily from Chinese mythology or if that focus will be limited to select skin bundles, the hints dropped certainly set an intriguing stage for the midseason update. Players are left speculating what innovative content could be unveiled as the launch date approaches.
