Exciting news for Overwatch 2 fans! The highly anticipated new Tank hero, Hazard, has been officially unveiled and is set to make his explosive entrance into the game. Players will have the opportunity to experience Hazard firsthand starting this weekend.
After the recent addition of Juno to the hero roster, players have been eager to learn about the next character. Blizzard has finally responded to the community’s curiosity by revealing a stunning trailer, confirming Hazard’s arrival.
Hazard is proudly designated as Hero 42, marking him as the 13th Tank character to join the Overwatch 2 lineup. The official reveal, featuring a two-minute cinematic trailer, was launched on November 19, showcasing Hazard’s personality, motivations, and potential gameplay mechanics.
Hazard’s Grand Reveal
The build-up to Hazard’s reveal has been rife with speculation, driven by various Easter eggs scattered across the game. A significant clue was a mysterious black orb found on Oasis, which many fans believed was connected to the new hero. Their theories have now been validated.
According to insights from Moira’s communications, the black orb, identified as a vanadium isotope, was illicitly taken from Oasis, known for its abilities to enhance strength in revolutionary ways. Now, this powerful element has fallen into Hazard’s grasp.
The cinematic, titled “Hazardous Tactics,”depicts an audacious heist where Hazard, along with two companions, successfully captures this potent isotope. Dubbed ‘Haz’ by his ally Suzie—who appears to be an Omnic hacker—Hazard, a formidable Scottish character, appears to aspire to harness even greater power than his impressive size suggests. After overpowering some members of Helix Security International, Hazard seizes the isotope and absorbs it, disregarding warnings from his crew.
While we learn a bit about Hazard’s dynamic with his ally Suzie, the identity of his other companion remains a mystery. The isotope’s integration into Hazard transforms his appearance, generating purple spikes and a flowing purple energy reminiscent of Bane’s look from the Batman franchise.
Preview of Hazard’s Abilities
Although details about Hazard’s abilities are still largely undisclosed, glimpses from the cinematic offer hints at his potential gameplay style. It appears he can discharge ammunition from one arm while launching a unique purple explosive from the other. This explosive seems to persist in the environment after detonating, echoing the mechanics of Mei’s wall but on a smaller scale.
Hazard’s agility is also noteworthy; there are moments in the trailer where he leaps high into the air, suggesting a level of mobility that could surprise opponents. Players will soon discover the full range of his skills as the Hero Trial approaches.
Hazard Hero Trial Announcement
To celebrate Hazard’s introduction, Blizzard is hosting a Hero Trial, similar to the one for Juno earlier this year. This will allow players to test out the new Tank before his official launch.
The Hazard Hero Trial kicks off on Friday, November 22, and is expected to run through Sunday, November 24.
With high anticipation surrounding Hazard’s release, players should expect fierce competition for the Tank role during the trial. However, as the weekend progresses, it will be intriguing to see how Hazard influences the gameplay dynamics in Overwatch 2’s upcoming season.
