In a recent update for Overwatch 2, the developers have sneakily introduced a much-anticipated feature that, surprisingly, was omitted from the official patch notes. This addition comes as a delight to many players who have been advocating for its return for some time.
During the first installment of the game, Overwatch 1, players enjoyed three exclusive PvP story events that included a valuable tool: the ability to view the health and status effects of all teammates displayed prominently at the top of the screen. This feature proved beneficial for support players, enabling them to quickly gauge their teammates’ health and provide necessary assistance.
With the launch of Overwatch 2’s PvE story content in Season 6, this helpful feature made a comeback – albeit in a revised format. Instead of its original placement, the team’s health display was repositioned to the bottom left corner of the screen. While the PvE campaign ultimately faced cancellation due to subpar sales, the reintroduction of this teammate health metric was well-received, prompting players to call for its integration into the PvP experience of OW2.
Exciting Update: Overwatch 2 Introduces Highly Requested UI Feature – With a Twist
As reported by OW Cavalry, the recent Quick Play event titled ‘Kingmaker’ has successfully added this PvE health feature into the game. Accessible through the game’s settings, players can now opt to engage this feature by navigating to the ‘PVP Team Overlay.’ This allows them to conveniently view their teammates’ health and status effects positioned directly above their own health bar.

Players have reacted positively to this option, with many emphasizing its potential as a significant quality-of-life improvement, especially for support characters. One enthusiastic player remarked, “I think it’s a great addition to the game and will help everyone in the team,” while another shared, “Been wanting this since I started playing support; my situational awareness is not ready for a mute team, bro.”
Opinions also suggested that additional customization options, such as altering the size and opacity of the health display, would enhance user experience even further. “Would also be nice to have a bit of customization with size and opacity, but for now, this would be awesome to have, so I don’t have to look at the leaderboard as much to tell if we’ve got numbers,” a player added.

Interestingly enough, this UI enhancement was not highlighted in the Kingmaker patch notes, which primarily focused on outlining the limited-time mode limitations, such as player roles and bonus effects for single players. With the anticipation building, players are eager to see if Blizzard will adopt this feature permanently with the upcoming Season 14 launch on December 10, which will also introduce the new tank hero, Hazard.
