Overwatch 2’s First-Ever Mythic Weapon Skin: Enemies Burst into Flames

The highly anticipated first-ever Mythic weapon skin for Overwatch 2 has been unveiled, boasting the unique ability to ignite enemies in flames.

The introduction of Mythic skins in Overwatch 2 marked the game’s highest level of cosmetic options with various customization choices. However, the Mythic treatment has now expanded to include weapons as well.

The Overwatch shop now offers the Bound Demon Reinhardt Mythic Weapon Skin for 50 Mythic Shards, featuring three levels of effects that players can strive to obtain.

The impacts consist of a weapon flourish, unique elimination animation, and reactive effects.

For example, when the reload button is pressed, Reinhardt will begin to flip and toss his axe. Fans have been eagerly anticipating this type of weapon animation, which was first teased as the “weapon inspect”feature during the sequel’s initial announcement.

Initially, we considered a magma theme for the weapon, but as I began developing the concept, I decided to incorporate a creature to give it a fiery and living element. Eventually, we settled on Bound Demon, an axe cursed with hellfire that radiates a sinister glow, according to concept artist Angela Song.

The weapon’s reactivity mirrors the demonic entity’s awakening and increasing strength as you feed it more kills during the game.

The elimination effect causes foes to dissolve into a fiery explosion whenever an enemy is defeated on the battlefield.

“According to Associate VFX Artist Nick Quackenbush, I proceeded with the concept that the kill effect resembles a smoldering eruption, as if the player is summoning dark forces from beneath the earth to eliminate their injured enemies, offering them as sacrifices to satiate the insatiable hunger of the Bound Demon.”

At this point, there is no information on what other Mythic weapon skins the developers are working on. However, if this Reinhardt skin is well-received, we can anticipate the release of several more in upcoming seasons.
