The developers of Overwatch 2 are implementing changes to Flashpoint in order to reduce its resemblance to a “walking sim”by providing players with speed boosts.
Once released, the Flashpoint maps are intentionally designed to be some of the largest in Overwatch 2. Despite this, players familiar with Flashpoint may have experienced the difficulty of regrouping after team fights due to the lengthy distance of spawns from the point.
Moreover, it can be particularly challenging to return to the point quickly if you are playing as a character with limited mobility, such as Ana or Sigma, or if you lack a Lucio or Junker Queen to provide a speed boost.
To address this issue, the developers will be implementing speed boosts for all the spawn exits, allowing players to reach the battle more quickly.
The speed boosts will help you get to the point faster.
In a Director’s Take for Season 12’s Competitive, it was announced that the developers will be incorporating speed boosts into the game mode.
“The developers stated that they have observed a decrease in popularity for walking sims and have therefore implemented a speed boost for all spawn exits in Flashpoint.”
According to their explanation, the exits will serve as boost pads, providing a temporary boost to propel you out of the door and back into battle quickly.
Despite its benefits, there are limitations to using the boost. If you engage in combat or receive damage while the boost is active, it will automatically be deactivated. This can make it difficult to escape quickly if the enemy is camping you.
Moreover, the speed boost can combine with other boosts in the game, but it will be restricted to a maximum in-game movement buff of 75%.
This means that while playing on Flashpoint with Lucio, Junker Queen, and Juno on your team, you cannot stack their speed boosts to reach Mach 10. However, you can still utilize each individual speed boost to extend its duration and maximize its effectiveness.
The updates will be implemented in Season 12, which is scheduled to launch on August 20.
