Overwatch Classic Players Demand Return of Beloved Features
Fans of Overwatch Classic are expressing disappointment regarding Blizzard’s apparent oversight in reintroducing one of the cherished elements from Overwatch 1 (OW1). In a surprising move last November, Blizzard unveiled Overwatch Classic, a limited-time mode that nostalgically restores the game to its initial 21 heroes, accompanied by the original balance patch and maps.
While the launch of Overwatch Classic has rekindled fond memories for many players and provided insights into how the game has evolved, one significant feature is noticeably absent. When Overwatch 2 debuted, several substantial changes were made to the way player statistics are tracked, including the stark introduction of a scoreboard that replaced the previous medal system, which restricted performance visibility to individual team contexts.
Another welcomed alteration was the removal of end-of-match cards that previously showcased standout performances from players, allowing teammates to vote for exceptional performances. These cards highlighted key statistics such as total healing, kill streaks, damage blocked, and overall damage dealt, which enhanced the competitive spirit and camaraderie among players.
A recent post on the Overwatch subreddit has ignited discussions among community members, with many calling for the reinstatement of these match performance cards. Players have been vocal about their desire for this feature, referring to its absence as a “missed opportunity.”One player passionately remarked, “I was REALLY hoping that they were going to bring these back! These were the BEST.”
Many community members echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging the logistical challenges Blizzard may face in reimplementing this feature. One participant expressed, “These were amazing. I feel like it wouldn’t have been too hard to add these back to the game. It’s really sad we don’t get to see them again, and that new players miss out.” Another enthused about witnessing high-performance stats, stating, “I loved seeing everyone’s stats! Especially healers. I’m like damn 12k! Get it.”
However, frustration was palpable in the community as another player lamented, “Missed opportunity every match I play. F**king why did they remove this?”
At this moment, there is no official word from Blizzard regarding the potential reinstatement of this feature in either Overwatch Classic or Overwatch 2. Nevertheless, the fervor within the community underscores a strong desire for the return of this engaging aspect of the game, as players continue to hope for its comeback.
