OW2 players say 6v6 isn’t enough & demand return of retired mechanics

The developers of Overwatch 2 are conducting a series of tests to bring back 6v6, as players have expressed their desire for more elements from the original Overwatch to be reintroduced.

On June 25, Blizzard revealed their plans to test various iterations of 6v6 gameplay in hopes of reintroducing the mode, which was originally released with a 5v5 format.

Encouraged by the news, OW2 players turned to Reddit to discuss other features they hope to see carried over from the original game.

One of the most highly requested changes for Overwatch 2 was the return of match cards. The post-game screen has been revamped, no longer showcasing players’ in-game accomplishments such as damage blocked or health healed. This is not the first instance where players have voiced their desire for Blizzard to reintroduce the screen.

“While acknowledging their lack of competitive significance, one Reddit user expressed enjoyment in watching these events and finding out obscure statistics that would otherwise go unnoticed.”

Fans have been wanting cards to return in Overwatch 2.

In addition, one player suggested that Blizzard should consider bringing back cinematics. Others argued for an increase in animation from the developer, using examples from Riot Games and Bethesda as reference for how they have showcased their IP.

“According to another Reddit user, a decision must be made to produce an anime/TV show instead of cinematics. Although the game’s current public perception may not be the best, the characters remain adored by many.”

While both match cards and cinematics appear to be feasible for Blizzard to reintroduce, there were multiple players who mentioned that loot boxes are unlikely to make a comeback.

The creator of the Reddit thread stated that loot boxes were their favorite aspect. They recalled being able to obtain a fully-equipped account without spending much money. The memory of saving a large amount of loot boxes and opening 30-40 of them was always exciting, especially when receiving a legendary skin.

The elimination of the contentious feature was among the initial announcements made by Blizzard regarding Overwatch 2. While a few players of Overwatch may have positive memories of loot boxes, the global efforts to regulate this form of gambling make their reappearance highly improbable.

Despite this, Blizzard remains committed to listening to fan feedback and exploring new ideas, leaving open the possibility of reintroducing mechanics from the original Overwatch in the future of OW2.
