Pachinko is a stunning epic tale that follows the aspirations and ambitions of a Korean immigrant family over four generations, adapted from the New York Times bestselling novel.
Despite being based on Min Jin Lee’s critically acclaimed book, which explores themes of generational trauma, survival, and legacy across multiple decades and timelines, the show is often overlooked on Apple TV+. However, it still manages to tell the original tale in a fresh and captivating manner, delighting audiences in the process.
Despite our initial surprise and disappointment due to the absence of a two-episode premiere, we are thrilled to announce that Pachinko Season 2 is now available on Apple TV+. We can’t wait to see Sunja and the rest of the well-developed characters return to the screen.
The initial installment of Season 2, also known as chapter 9, established the atmosphere for the remaining episodes and showcased Sunja’s imprisonment, among other events. As we eagerly anticipate the continuation of the story, we are confident that you can relate to our circumstances.
Pachinko Season 2 Episode 2 Expectations
In the upcoming episode of Pachinko Season 2, the family will be reunited with a beloved member, bringing them face to face with a difficult truth that viewers should also be prepared for.
It is expected that Pachinko’s theme would center on the Baek family’s struggles, considering the subject matter. Just as Sun-ja’s (Min-ha) arrest was tied to Solomon’s story, it is likely that Solomon’s reaction will offer insight into a similar situation that Sun-ja faced during her youth.
Despite still trying to find his footing in the business world, Solomon remains determined to achieve his goals and we can expect to see more of him in 1989. In the meantime, is Sunja open to giving Hansu a chance? While it may seem unlikely, it will be intriguing to see how his presence impacts her life in the future episodes.

Pachinko Season 2: Episode 1 Recap
In the opening episode of Pachinko season 2, a train arrives at a station in Osaka during the height of World War II in 1945. Han-su is faced with a difficult decision of whether to negotiate with the Americans or the Soviets for his valuable minerals. Sunja assures that rationing is in full effect, but she continues to operate her kimchi cart.
Despite her sister’s search for pickles, the situation appears grim. To make matters worse, American planes are flying overhead, releasing a deluge of letters instead of bombs. The note warns that the situation will only worsen if the people do not plead with the Emperor to end the war.
The villagers are educated to protect themselves and support each other in times of conflict. Mozasu takes part in stabbing the straw dummy, effectively demonstrating the indoctrination of propaganda in youth.
Despite initially starting school with a strong sense of confidence and pride in his family, Noa’s faith in the school system begins to wane. This change is a result of his upbringing in Osaka, rather than the center of Korea, and is compounded by his recent reading of Tom Sawyer, which has caused his thoughts to wander and become disillusioned with the world.
After class one day, Noa’s teacher encourages him to strive to leave the slums. However, Noa politely declines, as he is eagerly awaiting his father’s return and has aspirations of becoming a pastor. He is then given a book to assist with his university application by a fellow Korean named Go Young-Ho. The teacher observes Noa closely, recognizing their shared Korean heritage.
Sunja is lucky to have received money from her brother-in-law, who was drafted to work in a munitions factory. However, her supply of kimchi is dwindling as they have paid him in promissory notes. It has been three months since her mother last wrote to her.
Despite the potential for serious consequences, Sunja is presented with the opportunity to sell rice wine for extra money. While she sees it as a way to help her children, Kyunghee is hesitant due to the high stakes involved. Eventually, Kyunghee agrees to the plan, but only under the condition that Sunja returns to her every night.
Despite Kyunghee’s efforts to seek help from the officer during Sunja’s arrest at the black market, she is still taken into custody. However, thanks to the officer’s knowledge of Sunja’s identity, she is released while her sentence is being read.
It has been revealed that Han-su was the one who arranged for Mr. Kim to bring her to his office. Do you remember the mineral we saw earlier in this episode? It is called tungsten and is known for its resistance to corrosion.
Despite the ongoing conflict, grenades, missiles, and airplanes continue to reap the benefits. It seems that Han-su plays a significant role in this, as he reveals that he has been employing Mr. Kim to monitor Sunja’s well-being throughout the ordeal.
Despite Han-su’s dire warning and threat to destroy the entire city in the event of an American strike, Sunja refuses to accept the reality of the situation.
Solomon’s past experiences with Shiffley continue to affect him as he searches for employment during an interview in Tokyo in 1989. The situation becomes complicated due to a blemish on his record, making it difficult for him to secure the necessary funding. Despite being in a bustling city of 11 million people, Solomon can’t help but feel like he’s still in a small village.
Despite Abe-san’s determination to drive Solomon out of business and his aggressive tactics, he has been unsuccessful as he has not been able to secure any funds. However, during a dinner conversation with Tetsuya, he reveals his plan to invest $200 million into his project. This act serves as Solomon’s way of showing gratitude towards the man who has always supported him.
After experiencing a string of bad luck, Solomon’s fortunes finally reverse as Mozasu and Sun-ja come to his aid, contributing $700,000 to his company. However, in order to do so, they also had to take out a mortgage on the Pachinko building. Solomon starts to feel the pressure of this new responsibility.
Later that day, Tetsuya gives him a call to inform him that Abe-san has learned about his investment and has made a threat to intimidate him. As a result, he decides to withdraw his money. While at the grocery store, a Japanese vendor upsets Solomon with a racial remark after messing up their cake order, causing Solomon to become furious and distressed.
Upon their return to the shop, Solomon informs Sunja that he can no longer proceed with their plan. He expresses remorse for her, tearing up the investment check in an effort to protect them from potential harm. Despite all of this, Solomon later shows up to meet with Abe, leading to a possible confrontation.
