Noa gained admission to Waseda University in Tokyo in 1951, to the delight of Sunja’s family, who have faced many hardships. We witness their joy as they celebrate Noa’s accomplishments.
The locals commend Noa while Sunja’s family revels in their happiness. Mozasu, as he matures, begins to live more like a young adult. Amidst rising political tensions, Kim Chang-ho considers his future, torn between his roots and his affections.
In the presence of Yoseb, Chang-ho struggles to pursue a romantic relationship with Kyunghee, prompting him to reflect on alternative paths for his life. Just before Noa embarks on his journey, Hansu meets him and gifts him a worn watch as a token of good luck.
Sunja recalls the watch’s history but withholds that information from Noa. Food and drink form the backbone of their family bond as Noa strolls through his neighborhood, reminiscing about what he will miss before departing. Sunja, Kyunghee, and Yangjin assist Noa by packing his belongings into a suitcase.
The Fate of Sunja’s Family
Mozasu shares his plans to move to America in search of a new beginning, hoping to start afresh away from the scrutinizing gaze of family and society. Meanwhile, Yoseb joins others for dinner and complains about Kyunghee’s culinary skills.
