Parents’ Reaction to Teenager’s Engagement Has TikTok’s Support

The engagement announcement of an 18-year-old has become viral as TikTok users expressed their support for the parents’ less-than-enthusiastic response.

Hailey Brown, also known as ‘haybray06’ on TikTok, was eager to share with her parents the news of her engagement to her girlfriend, Jewels, who can be found on the social media platform under the username ‘julliaunabray’.

Hailey chose to announce the news by baking a cake and then shared their response on social media. However, as Hailey is only 18 and still considered a teenager, their parents were not as enthusiastic about the news.

“I have a surprise for everyone,”Hailey announced, covering the cake with a tea towel as her parents settled at the kitchen counter. “I’m not sure how you’ll react, but it’s something special.”

After the reveal was made, Hailey clarified, “She proposed to me.”Her mother then noticed Jewel hiding in the cupboard “recording us,”while Hailey’s father covered his face and took a sip of water.

Hailey pushed, clearly surprising both parents with the news, and asked, “Aren’t you going to say anything?”

Hailey’s father mustered a “Congratulations,”while her mother asked if Hailey was “happy”about the engagement. Hailey assured her that she was, prompting her mother to reply, “In that case, we are thrilled for you. All we want is for you to be happy.”

Despite Hailey’s disappointment over her parents’ behavior and her admission that the news would take some time to process, viewers couldn’t resist taking sides against the newly engaged couple in the comments. This was due in part to the fact that Hailey had only recently turned 18 and was feeling overwhelmed by the situation. However, she still expressed her belief that her fiancé was completely worth it, despite her parents’ “fakeness.”

“Someday, you will come to fully comprehend the reasoning behind your parents’ reactions. Believe me,”a person stated. Another added, “I, too, was married at 18 and divorced by 20…”

Another individual stated, “Being a parent of young adults, I can relate to this greatly. They understand the difficulties that you may not have thought about, yet they still want to stand by and help you.”

Despite many questioning the couple’s decision to get married quickly, some predicted that their marriage would not last more than a year.

In spite of this, a few individuals shared their own love stories that began with an early engagement and wished Hailey and Jewel all the best. One person shared, “I got married at 18, and that was four years ago. I have never been happier. Congratulations, babe. Don’t pay attention to the negative comments.”
