On the afternoon of November 21st (local time), the highly anticipated Disney Content Showcase APAC 2024 took place at the iconic Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. This event unveiled a series of exciting releases for the Disney+ streaming platform, including original series tailored specifically for the APAC region.
Spotlight on ‘Hyperknife’
Following the showcase announcements, an engaging press conference was held for the original content titled ‘Hyperknife’. Esteemed actors Park Eun-bin and Seol Kyung-gu, along with director Kim Jung-hyun, graced the event, offering insights into this gripping medical thriller.
Plot Overview
‘Hyperknife’ delves into the fraught psychological and professional battle between Seok, portrayed by Park Eun-bin, a once-promising genius doctor, and her former mentor Deok-hee, played by Seol Kyung-gu. Their twisted relationship unravels due to a series of traumatic events that led to Seok’s downfall.
Behind the Scenes Insights
During the conference, Seol Kyung-gu shared his unique experience of portraying a doctor for the first time. He revealed, “Before stepping into the operating room, I underwent training from a university neurosurgery professor, who guided me through the processes of changing surgical attire and the protocols leading up to an operation.” He emphasized the support provided during the filming process, with the professor present to oversee and correct his actions for authenticity.
Seol expressed that the most challenging scene he faced involved a simulated surgery, saying, “My hands are not dainty; handling instruments with precision was quite difficult for me.” This candid reflection highlights the commitment required for realistic portrayals in medical narratives.
Park Eun-bin’s Commitment to Authenticity
Similarly, Park Eun-bin discussed her dedication to realism in her role. “I focused on authenticity while still incorporating dramatic elements where necessary. Unfortunately, I couldn’t use a stunt double, so I performed the scenes myself,” she noted with a smile. Park shared her anxiety about whether the surgical sequences would translate convincingly on screen, though reassured by the professor’s guidance that it would look believable.
Release Date and Expectations
Anticipation builds as ‘Hyperknife’ is scheduled for release in March 2025, promising to deliver a captivating blend of medical drama and psychological tension.
