Despite her youthful and bright appearance, Park Hae-mi’s past is filled with heartbreak, a fact that is often overlooked by the public who only know her from her role in the sitcom “High Kick”.
Park Hae-mi’s debut as a musical actress included participating in well-known productions like “Mamma Mia!”, “42nd Street”, and “Really Really Like You”.
In 2005, Park Hae-mi made the decision to pursue drama as a means of personal growth, which led to her landing the lead role in the popular 2006 sitcom “High Kick”. Although “High Kick”brought her considerable attention and recognition, Park Hae-mi was unable to sustain her popularity in the long run. Following her success in “High Kick”, she took on supporting and minor roles in musicals, and to this day, “High Kick”remains her sole representative project.
Despite her unremarkable professional accomplishments, Park Hae-mi is best known for her tumultuous marriages. Her first marriage was to Mr. Lim, a man who worked for a large corporation, but it was not based on love. As a result, Park Hae-mi endured significant domestic abuse. Her husband was controlling and went as far as to install surveillance devices to monitor her, even going as far as to monitor her choice of underwear. When the family relocated to Canada, Park Hae-mi’s feelings of isolation and stress only intensified. Eventually, she mustered the courage to divorce her husband and gain custody of her son.
Park Hae-mi’s second husband was Hwang Min, a Korean-Canadian whom she met during a Gaksi Pumbaa performance. This particular performance was unique as it allowed the audience to join the actors on stage at the end. It was during this time that Park Hae-mi and Hwang Min went out by chance and began to get to know each other. Despite facing opposition from her family, Park Hae-mi was determined to marry Hwang Min.
In 2018, Hwang Min was responsible for an accident while operating the vehicle with the cast members of Park Hae-mi’s play as passengers. Driving at a speed of 167km/h under the influence of alcohol, Hwang Min collided with a 25-ton truck parked on the side of the road. His blood alcohol concentration exceeded the legal limit for driving and tragically resulted in the loss of two actors from the musical. As a result, his driving license was revoked.
After Park Hae-mi’s request, Hwang Min was ultimately arrested. During the investigation, the two never had the chance to see each other. After a 25-year marriage, they eventually divorced. Following a 4-year and 6-month prison sentence, Hwang Min asked for financial support from Park Hae-mi. To aid her ex-husband, the actress even sold a house and has been tirelessly working since 2018.
