Park Han-byul’s Emotional Return: A Deep Dive into Her Journey
On March 25, the anticipated episode of TV CHOSUN’s “With Father And Me” showcased a poignant moment featuring actress Park Han-byul. The teaser hinted at a touching conversation between Park and her father, who has been a steadfast support during the challenging aftermath of her husband’s involvement in the notorious “Burning Sun” scandal. This marked her first appearance on public broadcast after a six-year hiatus.

Park Han-byul began her segment by stating, “I’m appearing on TV for the first time in six years.” She bravely addressed the past controversies surrounding her family. Expressing her remorse, she stated, “It was something deeply regrettable. I genuinely apologize, ” bowing her head in heartfelt sincerity.
Her last television role was in the 2019 drama “Love in Sadness, ” marking nearly six years of absence from the entertainment landscape. However, following a new contract with Chan Entertainment, she is ready to reclaim her place in the limelight.

Delving into the reasons behind her extended break, she shared, “Due to my husband’s case, I felt an overwhelming sense of accountability as his wife, which contributed to my decision to step back.” Candid about her emotional turmoil, she admitted, “Every day was like a nightmare. I isolated myself completely and refrained from communication.”
Her father, who had remained silent throughout their struggles, articulated the pain of witnessing his daughter’s suffering. He expressed, “While six years might seem brief, it felt like emerging from a long, dark tunnel. I refrained from asking her too many questions for fear of causing more hurt.”

He also revealed the toll her ordeal took on him personally, sharing distressing symptoms: “I struggled with sleepless nights, lost my appetite, and even alcohol lost its effect on me. There were moments I contemplated drastic actions.” Overwhelmed by her father’s heartfelt disclosures, Park conveyed her empathy, tearfully saying, “I feel so sorry.”

In 2017, Park Han-byul married Yoo, the former CEO of Yuri Holdings. However, in 2019, Yoo became embroiled in the shocking “Burning Sun Gate” scandal, culminating in his indictment alongside former BIGBANG member Seungri for facilitating prostitution for international investors. Yoo received a sentence of one year and eight months, with a three-year suspension.
At that time, Park Han-byul publicly voiced her unwavering support for her husband, asserting, “I hold a deep sense of responsibility for the controversy. Regardless of the outcome, I view this as an opportunity to guide our family towards a better path. As both a mother and a wife, I aspire to lead a life that I can be proud of.”

She also advocated for leniency on her husband’s behalf through a petition submitted by his legal representatives, stating: “My husband is committed to facing the situation and cooperating fully during the investigation. He will not flee custody.” This petition highlighted his active participation in over ten police interviews and acknowledged his responsibilities as a father to their young child.
Now at a pivotal moment in her life and career, Park Han-byul’s heartfelt return to television is not simply a reflection of her past challenges but a testament to her resilience. As she seeks to redefine her public persona, her candidness and vulnerability may pave the way for a renewed chapter in her career.
