According to SNS platform X (formerly known as Twitter), a large number of both domestic and international fans have recently utilized the hashtag “Yoochun_A_Happy_Birthday”to commemorate Park Yoochun’s birthday on June 4th. Fans have been sharing past photos and videos of him, as well as various birthday-themed content.
The hashtag received more than 20,000 posts on the day and even trended on X, proving the continued adoration and enthusiasm of his fanbase.
Despite facing various controversies since 2016, Park Yoochun has been embroiled in scandals involving sexual misconduct and drug use allegations. In 2019, he was found guilty of methamphetamine use and received a suspended 10-month prison sentence. During a press conference, he even declared, “If I have indeed taken drugs, I would willingly leave the entertainment industry.”
After confirmation that Park Yoochun had used drugs, his agency became involved in disputes, casting doubt on his future domestic activities. Furthermore, in December of last year, Park Yoochun’s name was included on the National Tax Service’s list of habitual tax delinquents, with an outstanding tax debt of around 490 million KRW (approximately 358,000 USD), sparking renewed controversy.
In response to the phenomenon of fans showing unwavering devotion and support for celebrities who have engaged in illegal or unethical actions, cultural critic Kim Heon-sik remarked that this behavior can have dangerous consequences. He stated that if fans choose to turn a blind eye, defend, and endorse such misconduct, it can create a moral hazard and contribute to the repetition of similar criminal incidents.
