At the onset and conclusion of 2024, two standout games have captivated the Twitch audience: Path of Exile 2 and Palworld, emerging as the year’s most-watched titles. Each game has not only garnered massive viewership but has also outperformed long-established series like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
This year has been remarkable for Twitch, marked in part by the ascent of VTuber Ironmouse, who initially broke the subscriber record held by Kai Cenat. This achievement, however, was short-lived, as Cenat reclaimed the title during his month-long Mafiathon event. Meanwhile, the League of Legends Worlds 2024 tournament set a new standard by surpassing its own esports viewership records.
Nonetheless, the essence of Twitch remains rooted in gaming. Among the plethora of new releases throughout 2024, Path of Exile 2 distinguished itself with its late-December launch, effectively positioning itself alongside Palworld as a giant in viewership statistics.
Palworld and Path of Exile 2: Leaders in Twitch Viewership
While League of Legends commanded attention during its Worlds Finals, when concentrating on titles released in 2024, it was Path of Exile 2 that emerged victorious. According to a report from StreamsCharts, the role-playing game (RPG) peaked at an impressive 1.24 million viewers and achieved 41.59 million total hours watched.
In terms of popular streamers, Quinn69 and Asmongold were pivotal for Path of Exile 2, with Asmongold even launching a partnered account on Twitch for the game, climbing to become the platform’s eighth most-subscribed creator.
However, when evaluating viewer engagement over the critical first week after launch, Palworld secured an edge over its competitors. The game, dubbed as a “Pokémon with guns”experience by some, attracted 40.5 million hours of watch time immediately following its release, leaving Path of Exile 2 in second place with 35.47 million hours.
For context, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 recorded 26.75 million hours watched, while Black Myth: Wukong trailed closely with just under 23 million hours.
As we approach 2025, the gaming landscape remains exciting, especially with the highly anticipated GTA 6, expected in the fall. It will be intriguing to see if any new releases can replicate the astonishing success of titles like Path of Exile 2 and Palworld.
