<p>The anticipated launch of Path of Exile 2 has already made waves in the gaming community, boasting a peak player count on Steam that surpasses the original game by double. Currently, it secures a coveted spot among the top 20 most-played games on the platform.
The early access rollout, however, faced significant challenges. Gamers and developers alike expected a smoother launch, but technical difficulties and server glitches marred the experience. Despite a delay that shifted its release from November, the struggles persisted.
Fortunately, the developers at Grinding Gear Games have worked diligently to address the majority of these server-related issues. Nonetheless, some complications may still affect gameplay as improvements continue.
Path of Exile 2: A New Champion in Steam’s History
As of December 7, Path of Exile 2 achieved a staggering peak player count of 532,058, according to SteamDB, with numbers continually increasing. This remarkable surge in players indicates a robust and active community that is embracing the sequel.
For perspective, the original Path of Exile saw its highest player count reach 229,337 in July 2024. The new sequel has not just matched but is now outperforming its predecessor, what a feat!
This significant influx of players has propelled Path of Exile 2 into the upper echelons of Steam’s gaming landscape, landing it firmly in the top 20 most-played games of all time.
At present, the game ranks as the 15th most-played title on Steam, surpassing classics like Fallout 4 and Valheim, which sit at 20th and 16th places, respectively. The engagement doesn’t stop there, as Path of Exile 2 recently garnered over a million viewers on Twitch, briefly climbing to the top of SteamDB’s charts.
To ascend into the top 10, however, it would need to exceed player counts of popular titles like Apex Legends and Baldur’s Gate 3, with New World: Aeternum currently holding an impressive peak of 913,000 concurrent players.
Given its strong start, there’s an optimistic outlook for Path of Exile 2. It’s essential to remember that the game is still in its early access phase, and the full launch could potentially shatter existing records.
