Big changes are on the horizon for Path of Exile 2, particularly impacting the dominant Monk class, which has established itself as a leading force in the current game meta.
Since its early access launch, players have had the opportunity to choose from six classes, with the Monk and the Witch emerging as the most formidable options. The Monk, featuring the highly effective Tempest Flurry Invoker build, currently enjoys a reputation for being overpowered. Meanwhile, the Witch’s Summoner Infernalist build closely follows in effectiveness.
This Monk is currently top of the Path of Exile 2 meta.
Anticipated Changes to Path of Exile 2’s Meta
In a recent nearly eight-minute video, Game Director Jonathan Rogers provided insights into upcoming adjustments. Rogers stated, “We have a huge amount of much more meta-shifting changes that we know we want to make. One of the advantages of early access is that we have a clearer vision of where we want character power to be, along with the balance of bosses and monsters.”
This announcement generated more excitement than the enhancements introduced in the 0.1.1 patch, which aimed to improve the somewhat sparse endgame experience.
Since its release in December 2024, the meta surrounding the six playable classes, along with their respective Ascendancies, has remained relatively stable. The Monk’s supremacy has been a constant theme within the player community.
Therefore, the prospect of an evolving meta is refreshing, as it opens the door for other classes and builds to flourish and gain prominence.
Path of Exile 2 positions itself as a strong competitor to Diablo 4, which itself is moving towards its seventh season. The seasonal updates in Diablo 4 often recalibrate the game dynamics, causing shifts in character class performances due to periodic nerfs and enhancements to abilities.
With similar changes on the way for Path of Exile 2, players remain hopeful yet uncertain about when this shift may occur. It’s important to note that the current early access version does not feature the complete campaign or all character classes promised for the final release, but there is still potential for significant adjustments in the meta.
Once these changes occur, it will be intriguing to see how each class and Ascendancy adapts, and whether the Monk can maintain its position as the top contender.
