The success of Baldur’s Gate 3 was both unexpected and richly deserved. This game has excelled in bringing the beloved tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) adventure to digital platforms, setting a high standard for future titles, including Pathfinder 2E’s initial foray into video gaming.
Pathfinder is the biggest competitor to Dungeons & Dragons. Rooted in an earlier edition of D&D, Pathfinder offers a similar experience as a popular tabletop adventure filled with immersive roleplay, diverse characters, and a multitude of captivating campaigns to discover.
Now, the latest edition is making its way to consoles and PCs through the highly anticipated game – Pathfinder: The Dragon’s Demand.
Dragon’s Demand: Advertised as “Baldur’s Gate 3, but Pathfinder”
In an interview with PC Gamer, the developers at Ossian disclosed that their vision for Dragon’s Demand is to create a game that feels like “Baldur’s Gate 3, but Pathfinder, with miniatures,” focusing on the expansive RPG qualities of BG3, as well as the exquisite traditional miniature aesthetics familiar to TTRPG enthusiasts.
Similar to BG3, players can craft custom characters from a range of races including Dwarves, Elves, Gnomes, Halflings, Humans, and even Orcs or Goblins, which are not present in Baldur’s Gate 3. Moreover, Dragon’s Demand features 16 different classes, from Barbarian and Rogue to Champion and Investigator, ensuring something new for all D&D aficionados.
Additionally, you can level your character as you progress, team up with up to three companions, and explore various locations such as Dragonfen, Verduran Forest, and Belhaim. Rest assured, Dragon’s Demand includes romance options, so you won’t miss out on that experience either.
Although the visual style and design differ from Baldur’s Gate 3, inspiration is apparent throughout. The company’s CEO and project lead previously served as a producer for Baldur’s Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal, as well as other notable D&D titles like Neverwinter Nights.
The lead designer was also significantly involved in the modding scene for Neverwinter Nights, ensuring that you can expect a mix of quirky and beloved mods similar to those found in Baldur’s Gate 3 as part of the standard experience.
Currently, Dragon’s Demand does not have a set release date, but fans can support its development on Kickstarter to stay updated on its progress.
