In a recent episode of social media engagement, the official Payday 3 account took a playful jab at a player who has been vocal about the game’s declining player counts. This interaction highlights ongoing concerns surrounding the game’s popularity since its launch.
After a prolonged anticipation, Payday 3 officially released in September 2023. Unfortunately, its launch was marred by technical difficulties and server issues, which detracted from what should have been a triumphant debut for developers at Starbreeze Studios.
In response to the initial setbacks, Starbreeze has implemented several improvements aimed at enhancing player experience. Regular updates have introduced new content and features, such as Quick Play, designed to maintain player engagement. Despite these efforts, player activity appears to be declining.
Official Response to Player Concerns
The Payday social media team recently responded to a persistent critic on X, formerly Twitter, who frequently voices concerns about the game’s low player numbers. This individual has made a habit of questioning Starbreeze’s dedication to its user base and criticizes fellow gamers who support the company.
In a witty comeback, the official account stated, “What’s your point, Basil?” The tweet further inquired why this user continuously engages in discussions about player numbers while not even following the official game account.
What’s your point, Basil? I see you typing on each and every other post, and you don’t follow us so you are manually involving yourself. Player counts are low, that’s true – and? Your point? https://t.co/DJynJ96e2g

The Payday account subsequently clarified in another post that they don’t take offense when players highlight the declining counts. They acknowledged the reality of the situation, affirming that to rebuild, one must confront the hard truths. “We’re doing our best [to own] up to our mistakes through hard work,” they stated.
Currently, data from SteamDB indicates a concerning trend, with the game’s peak player count at under 800 concurrent users in the last 24 hours. While this figure does not account for players on consoles, it illustrates that the game’s player base remains shaky.
Nonetheless, there is hope for revitalization. Starbreeze is committed to supporting Payday 3 in the long term, as expressed in their recent communications, even suggesting that “only one heister [is] playing.” Excitingly, players can anticipate the upcoming First World Bank update, slated for release in December 2024, which may help to rekindle interest.
