Peaky Blinders Creator Exits Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars Film Project

u003cp>The latest updates regarding Daisy Ridley’s upcoming Star Wars film reveal that Steven Knight, the creator and showrunner of Peaky Blinders, has stepped down from his role as screenwriter, prompting producers to search for a new scriptwriter.

Once again, there are significant changes to the production of the Star Wars ‘Jedi Academy’ film. This project was initially unveiled during the Star Wars Celebration in London back in April 2023, with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, known for Ms. Marvel, attached as the director.

Originally, Oscar-nominated writers Damon Lindelof from Lost and Justin Britt-Gibson from The Strain were onboard to write the screenplay, with reports suggesting that the plot would focus on Rey’s mission to restore the Jedi Order.

Steven Knight later took over the writing responsibilities, adding to his filmography that includes titles like Eastern Promises and Dirty Pretty Things. Concurrently, Knight recently showcased his new TV series, A Thousand Blows, during the London Film Festival, and work on the Peaky Blinders film is currently ongoing in Birmingham.

Although the Star Wars project was announced more than 18 months ago, it appears that Knight has officially departed from the film, with Variety reporting that Lucasfilm is “actively engaging with potential writers to take over the narrative.”

This departure hints at a potential delay, meaning production may not commence until well into 2025.

The film, speculated to be titled ‘New Jedi Order,’ is among several Star Wars productions currently being developed.

Up next on the schedule is Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian, featuring Grogu, which is set to premiere in May 2026, again with Pedro Pascal reprising his role as Mando, alongside Sigourney Weaver.

Additionally, Disney has earmarked two untitled Star Wars films for release in December 2026 and December 2027, potentially including projects from directors James Mangold and Dave Filoni, which were previously revealed during the London Celebration in 2023.
