“Many viewers were left puzzled by an edited photo of Sherri Papini, the woman at the center of the case in Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance. However, there is a straightforward explanation for this.”
This month offers a plethora of new true crime content to explore, with one of the most buzzed-about being Hulu’s latest three-part documentary about Sherri Papini. The documentary delves into the story of Papini, who infamously staged her own kidnapping in 2016.
Despite the extensive coverage of the case, the documentary reveals a plethora of new information, including Sherri’s reported mistreatment of her children and the revelation of the true identity of “Smegma”, whom she had given a false name to as her kidnapper.
However, attention has shifted to a brief moment in Episode 2 that caught the eye of viewers. The moment featured Shasta County blogger Tim Scarbrough, whose viral posts discrediting Sherri’s story gained traction during the active investigation.
During the conversation about the warning signs he observed, a picture of Sherri is displayed on the screen, featuring an enlarged nose.
Viewers were left confused by this edited photo
After finding the documentary on Reddit, a viewer shared, “My roommate and I were watching this documentary and out of nowhere, a picture appears with a person having a large nose in Episode 2. It wasn’t explained and we were confused.”
“I’m feeling extremely perplexed about this. Could someone kindly provide an explanation? It’s so amusing that I can’t contain my laughter. We even went back and restarted, but the issue remained.”
“Another person exclaimed, “I immediately went to Reddit to see if anyone else had noticed this LMAO,”while a third person chimed in, “I’m relieved I wasn’t the only one. I kept rewinding and pausing because I thought I was seeing things.”
Another person joined the conversation, stating, “I’m currently watching and had to go back to double check. I found it so funny, I’m thrilled that this post is out there.”
However, there is a rather straightforward reason behind the edited Sherri Papini photo being circulated on the internet. It was released during a time when doubts were cast on her story. The alteration to her nose, resembling Pinocchio, was meant to imply that she was being deceitful.
According to one Redditor, the meme about the mystery was created by someone else, not the doctor. The creator expressed their belief that there were inconsistencies and lies in Sherri’s story, comparing it to Pinocchio.
“Another person remarked, “The nose of Pinocchio, since it was being used to accuse her of lying.”
In other parts of the thread, fans of true crime have suggested giving Perfect Wife a try, even though there may be some hesitation due to the extensive coverage of the case.
“I wasn’t planning on watching this because I was familiar with the story, but what are your thoughts on it? Is it worth watching?”inquired one person. Another responded, “I also thought I knew the story, but the documentary was very well-made. It provided a lot more insight than I expected.”
A third commenter chimed in, stating, “This is truly gripping. I sympathize with the husband as he is simply trying to keep his family safe.”
Additionally, a fourth person added, “Honestly, it was incredibly good. As a whole, the story was one of the most captivating and craziest things I have ever witnessed. My wife and I are avid viewers of this type of content.”
“This documentary is very well-made and highly engaging. It deserves to be three episodes as it does not suffer from being stretched too thin or dragging in parts, unlike some other documentaries. It maintains a gripping pace from start to finish.”
