The “Twisted Childhood Universe”is constantly growing, and the newest addition to receive a horror makeover is Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare. However, not everyone is on board after viewing the new trailer.
The ‘Poohniverse’, as it is popularly known, centers around transforming beloved childhood characters into terrifying horror movie icons. With the incorporation of some public domain elements, it is rapidly expanding into a fully-developed cinematic universe.
In 2023, the first installment of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey was released. Following that, Pinocchio: Unstrung, Bambi: The Reckoning, and Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare have all been included in the lineup of upcoming movies.
On August 30, the trailer for Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare was released, offering horror enthusiasts a sneak peek into the twisted interpretation of the immortal boy.
Nevertheless, the trailer suggests that Peter Pan has indeed grown up and transformed into a deranged killer with a craving for violence.
Despite receiving critical failure, Blood and Honey proved to be a major box office success. The budding franchise holds a certain appeal to audiences, although Peter Pan does not seem to be receiving much positive attention.
Following the release of the trailer, numerous horror enthusiasts voiced their disapproval of the yet-to-be-released film on social media. Comments on X website, such as, “The premise of this horror movie is not even worth considering. It simply revolves around a deranged individual killing innocent children, and that is not something anyone wants to watch. Shame on you.”
Another person commented on the irony of classic characters entering the public domain and immediately being turned into poorly executed horror stories that fail to fully embrace their fantastical origins.
A third person exclaimed, “This appears to be an abomination, Jesus Christ!”while commenting on the post.
Despite this, there are still those who are open to the concept of a darker interpretation of the childhood figure. In response to a comment on the matter, one person stated: “The Blood and Honey universe continues to grow, and this new addition seems like it will be absolutely wild.”
“Another person contended that this was superior to Winnie the Pooh, citing evidence.”
One person also commented: “lmfao the people who are upset in the comments about this ruining the original story have obviously never read the book. It is canon in the book for Peter to murder lost boys, so creating a horror movie based on it makes perfect sense.”
The release date for Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare has not been confirmed, but it is anticipated to debut in early 2025.
