PewDiePie, Shroud, and Lirik: Twitch Channels Face Third Ban in Two Weeks

Twitch channels themed around PewDiePie, Shroud, and Lirik faced a third suspension within a short span of two weeks, with each ban lasting under 30 minutes.

On October 3, 2024, Twitch imposed a ban on these channels, which are dedicated to continuously streaming reruns of their respective streamers’ content.

Viewers were left puzzled by the sudden bans; however, just 15 minutes later, the accounts were reinstated, and the streamers resumed broadcasting.

Another set of bans occurred on October 12, with the channels once again reinstated shortly after within a mere 15-minute window. Fans initially believed that these would be the final actions taken by Twitch against the channels, but their expectations were dashed just two days later.

Shroud is recognized as one of the top Twitch streamers on the platform.

On October 14, the accounts of PewDiePie, Shroud, and Lirik_247 were suspended for a third time, but once again, they were back online after 30 minutes.

PewDiePie’s Twitch account serves as the official channel for the popular Swedish creator, who transferred account rights to CoPilotMedia in March 2023. The channel has since garnered nearly 2 million followers, boasting an average viewer count of approximately 200.

Conversely, the Shroud and Lirik_247 channels were established in the summer of 2024 and have quickly built a significant following on the Amazon-owned platform.

These recurring suspensions come on the heels of Twitch’s recent update to its Community Guidelines, which intensifies scrutiny on unoriginal content and impersonation practices. The exact reasons behind the channel bans remain unclear, but the newly introduced impersonation rules might offer some insight.

According to these guidelines, “Impersonation is a malicious practice that undermines trust in our platform and can negatively impact the individual being impersonated.” The rules specifically prohibit content or activities designed to impersonate individuals or organizations, including Twitch personnel, celebrities, businesses, or acquaintances.
