A United Airlines pilot has received widespread acclaim for generously treating stranded flight passengers to a meal after an emergency landing caused a significant delay.
Following a 7-hour delay due to an emergency landing, the pilot surprised 150 passengers by ordering 30 pizzas from a local restaurant at an airport in New Mexico.
This thoughtful gesture transformed an otherwise “disheartening” situation, as reported by passenger Tanya Stamos, who spoke with Fox News. “It completely shocked everyone,” she claimed.
“Most organizations do not go above and beyond, but that captain did not hesitate,” Tanya noted. “His actions that evening exemplified the selfless acts of love, compassion, and humanity we need more of.”
According to Fox News, a United Airlines flight traveling from San Francisco to Houston on September 13 had to make an emergency landing in Albuquerque shortly after takeoff when a passenger required immediate medical assistance after collapsing in the bathroom.
This incident left the 150 passengers waiting at the New Mexico airport for several hours, as accommodations were arranged due to the flight being rescheduled with a new crew.
Tanya, who later shared her experience on TikTok, mentioned that the airline initially provided $15 food vouchers; however, with most airport restaurants closed, they could not be utilized promptly. That’s when the pilot decided to order pizzas for everyone involved.

This considerate act kept the passengers fed and content until they could board a new flight around 11 p.m., seven hours after their unexpected landing. They eventually arrived safely in Houston around 2 a.m. Tanya recounted how the pilot stood at the front of the plane, expressing gratitude to passengers for their patience as they deplaned.
“As I exited the plane, I shook his hand and thanked him,” she recalled. “Everyone behind me then followed suit, showing their appreciation as well.”
While this pilot’s pizza delivery for passengers has garnered praise, another pilot gained attention earlier this year for causing a delay by ordering pizza for his crew.
