As the Poohniverse continues to grow, allegations have arisen that the Pinocchio: Unstrung poster plagiarized another horror film featuring a well-known doll.
Despite receiving negative reviews from critics, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey proved to be a hit at the box office, leading to a surge of upcoming films featuring public domain characters, including the beloved wooden puppet, Pinocchio.
In addition to Bambi: The Reckoning and Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, the release of Pinocchio: Unstrung is contributing to the expansion of The Twisted Childhood Universe (also referred to as the Poohniverse). However, the poster for the highly-anticipated horror film has faced allegations of plagiarism in its marketing, specifically in its depiction of another iconic doll: Chucky.
One Reddit user observed that the new poster for Pinocchio: Unstrung closely resembles the 2019 reboot of Child’s Play.

Undoubtedly, the two posters share a striking resemblance, as both showcase the antagonists strolling away from their prey. One poster displays Woody from Toy Story, while the other portrays Geppetto in the Pinocchio: Unstrung poster.
The Child’s Play poster alluded to the Toy Story character at the time, as the horror reboot’s release coincided with that of Toy Story 4. Not only was Woody a target, but Chucky also took down Buzz, Rex, Hamm, and Slinky in their own versions of gruesome demises.
One X user observed that this poster takes them back to 2019 for the Child’s Play Reboot as it looks very similar.
Another person asked if this was a new version of the Chucky movie.
One remark highlighted: “1. Pinocchio had been in the public domain, so why did they choose to release it now? 2. This poster is practically identical to the one for the Child’s Play remake.”
The individual mentioned, “It is essentially the Child’s Play (2019) parody poster featuring Pinocchio and Geppetto instead of Chucky and Woody, but with a flipped orientation,”according to a recent tweet.
Rhys Frake-Waterfield will direct Pinocchio: Unstrung, which is set to be released in theaters in 2025.
