Pirate Software Releases Final Statement on OnlyFangs WoW Controversy Described as “Absurd”

Amid swirling controversy, Pirate Software has issued what he claims to be a conclusive statement regarding the escalating OnlyFangs drama within the World of Warcraft (WoW) community. With this pronouncement, the contentious streamer aims to absolve himself of the ongoing turmoil.

The beginning of 2025 has been tumultuous for the WoW community, marked by numerous disputes rather than positive events. A significant part of this discord centers around Pirate Software, who, after transitioning from game developer to streamer, has become engulfed in scandal.

For those unfamiliar with the events, Pirate faced severe criticism regarding his conduct while participating in an OnlyFangs guild run. In recent weeks, the guild members have been laboring on Hardcore servers, where death is permanent and characters are irretrievable.

The incident in question occurred during a challenging Dire Maul run. During the gaming session, a five-player team encountered overwhelming opposition and opted to retreat. In the ensuing chaos, two characters were lost, and the blame swiftly shifted towards Pirate. As a Mage, he had the potential to mitigate the threat with crowd control spells; however, he instead opted for self-preservation by casting Ice Barrier, subsequently denying any responsibility in assisting his team.

This event sparked considerable backlash, leading to calls for the removal of Pirate from the OnlyFangs guild, championed by fellow streamer and guild leader, Sodapoppin. The dispute has raged on, prompting Pirate to address the situation—what he insists will be his final commentary.

With the OnlyFangs controversy dominating discussions in the streaming sphere, Pirate stated in his definitive message on January 15 via X (formerly Twitter): “This OnlyFangs stuff actually sucks. I’m putting everything in one place and washing my hands of it after this.”

Clarifying the Dire Maul Incident

Pirate emphasized the need to clarify his actions during the Dire Maul encounter once and for all. Despite repeated attempts to explain himself in the aftermath, he insisted, “From my perspective, I didn’t feel I could save anyone else with the resources I had.”He contended that he acted in accordance with the group decision and focused on ensuring his own survival amid the chaos.

Highlighting that mistakes were made by everyone involved, he lamented that the entirety of the fallout was unjustly placed on his shoulders.

In light of the controversy, which has become a focal point within the streaming community, Pirate addressed the extreme backlash he faced, including death threats that were escalated by some irrational viewers. Even Sodapoppin recognized that much of the criticism had crossed a line.

Pirate described the harrowing experience, saying, “The next few days was just tens of thousands of messages berating me, sending death threats, doxxing, and all kinds of sh**.” He presented instances of threats received both during streams and via private messages, including alarming threats directed at his family.

Response to the Online Hate Campaign

In response to the intense harassment, Pirate underscored the necessity of defending oneself, asserting, “The idea that you shouldn’t fight back or do anything to defend yourself is absurd.” He clarified that he implemented numerous bans in response to the flood of abusive accounts that targeted him.

Pirate concluded his statement by expressing gratitude to several OnlyFangs members who reached out to him during the fallout, hinting at an openness to reconnecting in future gaming endeavors, albeit outside of WoW.

Community Reactions Remain Mixed

Despite the extensive statement from Pirate, the response from portions of the WoW community remains largely critical. Many believe that he has yet to take sufficient responsibility for the events that transpired. Comments from viewers reveal a persistent sentiment that an apology might have sufficed.

Criticism extends to his perceived lack of accountability, as some commentators remarked on social media, “Try to say sorry challenge (impossible),” while others berated his dismissive attitude towards the incident.

As it stands, Pirate has declared his intention to move on from the controversy and avoid further commentary. Meanwhile, the OnlyFangs guild continues to operate within the Hardcore WoW landscape, with prominent figures like Tyler1 and Sodapoppin still actively participating.
