A comic collector recently shared the heartbreaking news that thieves stole approximately $35, 000 worth of comics from his storage unit just before Christmas. This incident resulted in the loss of a substantial part of his cherished collection in one devastating night.
The Omnibus Collector, a prominent YouTuber known for his engaging weekly content about comics and manga, broke the story on his channel. He elaborated that the stolen items included rare high-value omnibus editions, which he had stored away due to a lack of display space at home.
In total, the thieves made off with around 40 boxes of comics, in addition to a bicycle and some tools that had sentimental value as they belonged to his grandfather. The collector speculated that his unit may have been specifically targeted, as it appeared that someone noticed him frequently visiting the location, rather than the thieves being aware of the valuable items inside.
Significant Loss: $35, 000 Worth of Comics
The aftermath of the theft left him in a state of shock.“It brought me to the realization, a few days after it happened, that there’s nothing that I can do. I’m not getting those books back, ”he expressed in his video.
While he has not experienced a break-in at his home, this incident has shaken his sense of security.“They also stole my sense of security, ”he said, explaining how the anxiety from this experience has led him to contemplate an emergency relocation, minimizing his need for off-site storage in the future.
In an inspiring turn of events, the comic community has rallied to support The Omnibus Collector. Fans have generously contributed replacement books and gift cards, allowing him to recover around 20 volumes of his lost collection thus far.
Despite the significant setback, The Omnibus Collector remains optimistic about rebuilding his collection.“We’re going to replace. We’re going to rebuild. And it’s going to be better than ever, ” he affirmed, demonstrating resilience in the face of adversity.
