Fortnite has once again faced significant hurdles in its efforts to re-enter the iOS App Store. After a prolonged absence, the popular battle royale game has been effectively blocked from mobile access on Apple devices.
The saga began in August 2020 when Epic Games took a radical stance against Apple’s mandatory commission on in-game purchases, leading the company to remove Fortnite from the iOS App Store. Over the subsequent five years, a tumultuous legal battle unfolded, with a recent court ruling appearing to favor Epic Games. Yet, their attempts to bring Fortnite back to the iOS platform have met with further resistance.
On May 9, 2023, Epic Games submitted Fortnite for review in anticipation of the upcoming May 16 update, version 35.10. However, after an extensive wait of 120 hours, the company was compelled to withdraw the game and resubmit it. Upon resubmission, news broke on May 16 that Apple had, once again, blocked access, rejecting the game in less than a day.
Fortnite’s Future on the App Store Remains Uncertain
The official Fortnite account took to X to announce the disappointing news: “Apple has blocked our Fortnite submission so we cannot release to the US App Store or to the Epic Games Store for iOS in the European Union. Now, sadly, Fortnite on iOS will be offline worldwide until Apple unblocks it.” This statement underscores the dire situation for players hoping to access the game on Apple devices.

To date, Apple has not provided any explanations for this re-blocking of Fortnite, a move that has left many players disheartened, especially those excited for the game’s latest Star Wars-themed update. One user expressed their frustration, stating, “That is such a HUGE L. Honestly feel so bad for you all. Standing up for what is right and being treated like this. L Apple, ” a sentiment that resonates with numerous fans facing the same disappointment.
Whether the ongoing legal issues play a role in this protracted absence or if other factors are at work, it is clear that Fortnite players on Apple devices may have to wait indefinitely for the game’s return.
