Recent forecasts from industry analysts suggest that CD Projekt Red’s highly anticipated return to Night City may not materialize for several years, potentially extending into the next decade.
The launch of Cyberpunk 2077 in December 2020 generated immense excitement but was met with significant criticism due to numerous performance issues. In response, CD Projekt Red dedicated years to restoring its reputation through consistent updates, engaging expansions, and a renewed commitment to quality. As a result, the game has evolved into a cherished title, maintaining a dedicated fanbase even five years post-release.
Projected Release Window and Budget for Cyberpunk 2
According to insights from the Polish analytics firm Noble Securities, the sequel to Cyberpunk is currently in its development phases. In a recent report translated from Polish, the firm noted:
“Regarding the Cyberpunk sequel, Noble Securities indicates that the team working on the project as part of the studio’s second key franchise consists of 135 people and is expected to double in size within two years. The desire to integrate multiplayer into production prompted us to extend production time beyond the progress of work on the benchmark W4. As a result, the budget has increased to PLN 1.5 billion, and we expect the release in Q4 2030 (the 10th anniversary of CP77).”
This perspective hints at a tentative release period for Cyberpunk 2 in late 2030, mirroring the original game’s December launch.
Moreover, the projected budget appears to be in line with the financial commitment made for Cyberpunk 2077, estimated at around $419 million. This is a modest increase from the reported budget of $436 million for the first game.
In parallel, CD Projekt Red is engaged with other projects. The studio is actively enhancing The Witcher 3 with rumored DLC and is immersed in the development of The Witcher 4.
