A former developer from Rockstar Games has expressed skepticism that Grand Theft Auto VI can afford another delay, predicting a release date of November 2026, regardless of whether the game meets the company’s high standards.

The highly anticipated title is now set to launch on November 19, following several public delays that moved it from its initial 2025 release window. With expectations at an all-time high, GTA 6 is expected to shatter sales records, and rumors suggest a retail price could reach $100.

Amidst speculation about pricing, Rockstar aims for nothing short of perfection. The recent delay was stated as necessary to ensure the game aligns with player expectations. However, while some sources indicate that development is wrapping up with mere polishing remaining, one former employee suggests that the game may be released regardless of its final readiness.

Why November 2026 is Key for GTA 6’s Release

In an interview with Esports Insider, Mike York, a former animator for Rockstar and GTA 5, elaborated on the reasons behind this prediction. He commented on the studio’s commitment to quality, stating, “If I know Rockstar Games, and I know the guys over there, one of the reasons for the delay in releasing GTA 6 is because they’re trying to make it look as best as it can possibly be.” He added that the stakes are high, with enormous expectations from fans likely affecting the internal completion timeline.

York further emphasized the timing of the November 2026 release, suggesting it aligns perfectly with holiday shopping.“If you want to sell a big amount of video games then that’s the perfect time for GTA 6 to come out with it being a month before Christmas, ” he stated. Most often, companies limit delays to one or two incidences when essential, leading York to conclude that the game will indeed be available by the anticipated month.

The Community’s Concerns Over Further Delays

Despite this optimism, fan sentiments have shifted towards skepticism regarding further postponements. Recent layoffs within Rockstar have raised alarms about the team’s ability to meet project deadlines, with an anonymous developer mentioning concerns that these changes could lead to more delays.

York, however, remains optimistic, believing players will soon be exploring Vice City as characters Jason and Lucia. He cautioned that additional delays could diminish excitement.“We’ve been waiting so long for GTA 6 already that if there was to be another delay, people will probably stop caring about its release even more, ” he expressed.

York warned that if Rockstar chooses to postpone the game again, the current hype might dissipate completely.“Right now, nobody is searching for GTA 6. Everyone knows there’s no news, there’s nothing to talk about… There’s a point to where you delay something so much that you start to make people angry.” He observed that many fans have expressed frustration, now apathetic towards discussions of delays.

“People aren’t itching to find new details or the latest leak anymore, they’re over it, ” he noted. The sentiment has shifted to a more resigned attitude: ‘it will come out when it comes out, ’ as fans have grown weary of shifting timelines.

The decision to delay the release from May to November was even derided in governmental circles, with an opposition party member in the Polish parliament labeling it “a huge scandal.”

As the November release date approaches, only time will reveal if Rockstar can successfully meet its timeline or if fans will be faced with additional disappointment over further delays.
