A former developer from Rockstar Games expressed his belief that Grand Theft Auto 7 (GTA 7) or Red Dead Redemption 3 (RDR3) may already be in development. This insight comes as anticipation builds around the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), which is scheduled to launch on November 19.

Mike York, an animator who transitioned into a YouTube career after contributing to GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, shared his thoughts during an interview with Esports Bets. He suggested the likelihood that Rockstar is busy crafting its next flagship title.

Development of New Titles: GTA 7 and RDR 3?

York indicated that major gaming companies frequently have multiple projects in the pipeline, and Rockstar Games is no exception. He elaborated, stating, “Major gaming companies always have two games being developed at once, so Rockstar Games might have already started working on a potential GTA 7 or RDR3.”

He further explained, “As the gaming industry evolves, studios often commence work on their next project as soon as the current game approaches completion.” With GTA 6 nearing its final stages, York expressed surprise if RDR3 has not already received the green light for development.

Release Expectations for GTA 7 and RDR 3

Despite the excitement surrounding these potential titles, York cautioned fans that they might not see RDR3 for several more years, projecting a release no earlier than 2032. He pointed out that the extensive development time for Rockstar’s titles, such as the ten-plus years it took from GTA V to GTA VI, is a significant factor.

“Producing games of this magnitude usually requires five to seven years, ” he noted, highlighting the vast scope and detailed design of these blockbuster titles.

York also mentioned the possibility that Rockstar’s upcoming game might not be either GTA or Red Dead at all, suggesting that something entirely different could be underway. Regardless, he remains confident that development is in progress.

“I’d expect its release in the early to mid-2030s, ” he added.

If Rockstar decides to pursue RDR3, fans might expect a return to the original formula seen in RDR2, potentially showcasing a prequel set in an earlier and even harsher version of the Wild West.

Conversely, when it comes to GTA 7, speculation abounds. Another former developer, Obbe Vermeij, expressed skepticism about setting the game anywhere outside the United States, asserting that while alternative locations like Tokyo have been considered, the franchise is more likely to revisit iconic cities like New York, Los Angeles, or Las Vegas.

“I’m afraid we’re stuck in a rotation of about five American cities. Let’s just get used to it, ” he commented, hinting at the potential for repetitive settings in future installments.

For now, fans are eagerly counting down to the release of GTA 6, which industry insiders claim will set a new standard that may not be surpassed for over two decades. Recent leaks suggest that GTA 6 will deliver an unprecedented gaming experience.
