In the desolate expanse, Riyo demonstrates her impressive combat abilities, executing fluid attacks with her scissor-shaped Vital Instrument that effortlessly dispatches trash monsters. Set against the backdrop of a stark divide between slum dwellers and the affluent, Rudo, alongside his foster father Regto, strives for coexistence in their impoverished community. However, Rudo’s disdain for the upper class’s extravagance drives him to scour the town’s refuse in search of items worth salvaging from the dreaded Abyss—a chasm where discarded items, and even people, are unceremoniously disposed of. Rudo’s biological father fell victim to this fate, accused of murder and cast into the Abyss.
After a fateful encounter with a mysterious entity on his way home, Rudo returns to find Regto mortally wounded. Accused of the crime, he is imprisoned and tossed into the Abyss. Contrary to death, he awakens in a grotesque landscape where monstrous beings composed of refuse roam.
Just when Rudo seems doomed, a Cleaner named Enjin rescues him, unveiling the presence of specialized weapons called Vital Instruments specifically designed to combat these threats. In a quest for vengeance against Regto’s murderer, Rudo begrudgingly commits to becoming a Cleaner, determined to fight his way to the surface and exact justice.
