Historically, Windows 11 would automatically showcase specific widgets on the lock screen, including weather updates, traffic information, and sports scores. Unfortunately, users had no means to customize these widgets, which could limit their utility for those uninterested in seeing certain data.

In response to user feedback, Microsoft has introduced a new feature that allows for the complete personalization of lock-screen widgets. The earlier “Lock screen status” option has been replaced by the new “Widgets” toggle, granting you greater flexibility to add, remove, or rearrange widgets according to your preferences.

This guide will illustrate how to activate, modify, or disable the widgets on your Windows 11 lock screen, along with additional instructions for using ViveTool to enhance widget functionality.

Activating Widgets on the Lock Screen

To enable widgets on your lock screen, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings: Click on the Start menu and select Settings.
  2. Select Personalization: In the settings menu, choose Personalization.
  3. Access Lock Screen Settings: Navigate to the Lock Screen page.
  4. Enable Widgets: Toggle the “Widgets” option to the on position.

Modifying Lock Screen Widgets

To change the widgets displayed on your lock screen, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings and select Personalization.
  2. Navigate to the Lock Screen settings.
  3. Click on the “Widgets” section.
  4. Hit the Add widget button.
  6. Select your desired widget from the provided options.
  7. Press Add widget to finalize your selection.
  9. Remove a Widget: To delete a widget, click its menu and select Remove.
  11. Rearrange Widgets: You can drag any widget to your desired location on the lock screen.
  12. Customize Widgets: Click on a widget’s menu and opt for Customize widget to modify its settings.
  13. Suggest Widgets: Enable the “Suggest widgets for your lock screen” option to allow Windows to suggest additional widgets if there’s space available.

Once these steps are completed, only the selected widgets will be displayed on your lock screen. Alternatively, you can access settings directly by clicking the menu button located in the lock screen widget area and selecting “Manage widgets”.

Disabling Widgets on the Lock Screen

If you wish to remove all widgets from the lock screen, you can do so by following these steps:

  1. Open Settings and go to Personalization.
  2. Select the Lock Screen settings page.
  3. Toggle the “Widgets” option off.

Following these steps will disable the widgets feature entirely on your lock screen.

Using ViveTool to Enable Widget Settings

If the “Widgets” option isn’t visible even after updating your system, you can activate it using ViveTool. Here’s how:

  1. Download ViveTool: Go to the GitHub page and download the latest version of ViveTool.
  2. Unzip the downloaded ViveTool-vx.x.x.zip file.
  3. Open the extracted folder.
  4. Copy the path to the folder.
  5. Open Command Prompt: Search for Command Prompt, right-click, and choose Run as administrator.
  6. Navigate to the ViveTool folder using the command:

    7. cd c:\folder\path\ViveTool-v0.x.x

    Ensure you replace the path above with your actual folder path.

  7. Enable the Lock Screen widgets with the command:

    8. vivetool /enable /id:50179255, 53672489

  8. Reboot your device to apply changes.

After completing these steps, you’ll be able to configure the new widgets feature as outlined earlier. To undo the changes, repeat the above steps and use this command:

vivetool /disable /id:50179255, 53672489
