Engaging in epic battles in Monster Hunter Wilds can sometimes mean lengthy encounters, with some fights lasting upwards of half an hour. There might even be moments when you think it’s safe to step away, only to discover that while the monster is regrouping, it’s taking the opportunity to recover as well.

In situations where you need to leave the game, the most effective strategy is to pause the action. Fortunately for players, there is an option to pause, although it comes with specific limitations.

To successfully pause your game in Monster Hunter Wilds, it’s essential to be playing in Online Single Player mode. The default setting immerses you in an online multiplayer environment, featuring as many as 100 players within the same world or campsite.

To initiate the game in Online Single Player mode, select this option after either loading an existing save file or starting anew. When using an existing save, you can create a private lobby if you plan to invite friends; however, it’s crucial to note that you won’t have the ability to pause the game in this setting. The pause feature is exclusively available in the Online Single Player mode.

Once you enter the Online Single Player mode, pausing is achievable through the start menu. Interestingly, during this state, you can utilize an SOS Flare to summon other players, effectively creating a temporary multiplayer experience. Following the completion of the hunt, the game will revert back to Online Single Player mode, allowing you to pause once again.

If you prefer not to restart your save file or game, switching modes can be easily handled by interacting with your handler, Alma. This will grant you access to the Quest Counter window. From there, navigate to the “Change Lobby Menu” option.

In this menu, you will encounter the Online Single Player option, which will be grayed out if you are already in that mode. If it’s available, you can opt to select it to transition while continuing your current quest.

Additionally, within this same menu, you can initiate private lobbies, search for specific lobbies, or join a random one that matches your progress or Hunter Rank. Be sure to keep Alma’s location in mind, as she is instrumental for accessing these functionalities.
