Epic Games has unveiled the exciting 40.10 update for Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2, which includes the much-anticipated April Fools event on the Battle Royale island. This year’s unique offering features a delightful big head mode alongside a new mechanic allowing players to shoulder ride one another, adding an extra layer of fun to the game.

How to Execute a Shoulder Ride in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2

To shoulder ride in Fortnite’s April Fools update, players must utilize the new Shoulder Ride Social Interaction emote. This feature encourages teamwork, as a player must invite a partner to join them on their shoulders. Follow these simple steps to start your shoulder riding adventure:

  • Enter into a match with a duo, trio, or squad.
  • Once on the island, access your emote wheel by pressing Down on the D-Pad for controllers or B for PC users.
  • Navigate to the Social Interactions section located on the far right of the emote wheel.
  • Select the Shoulder Ride emote to send an invitation to your teammate.
  • Your teammate can then press the Interact button (Square/X for controllers and E for PC) while standing next to you to leap onto your shoulders.

Although this new mechanic doesn’t provide any significant gameplay advantages, it serves as an amusing addition that complements the big head update perfectly. It’s important to note, however, that the player carrying won’t be able to wield any weapons, placing the onus on the rider to ensure both players’ safety. Interestingly, the rider can still loot from chests and ammo boxes as well as engage enemies while on someone’s shoulders.

Furthermore, players can elevate their shoulder riding experience by also riding a Loot Llama, another quirky feature introduced with the big head update.

This shoulder riding feature will be accessible for a limited time, available from April 1, 2026, at 5:30 AM ET until April 2, 2026, at 5:30 AM ET. However, Fortnite developer Ted Timmins hinted that this feature may persist beyond its initial timeframe, depending on player reception.
