With the decision to postpone the TikTok ban in the United States until April 2025, users should exercise caution to maintain access to the app. The downloadable version of TikTok is currently unavailable, and actions taken now could restrict future access.
The legal framework to prohibit TikTok was enacted on January 19, 2025. However, shortly thereafter, President Trump issued an executive order that delayed the enforcement of this ban.
Major platforms such as Apple and Google preemptively removed TikTok, along with other applications owned by ByteDance, from their app stores before the January deadline. Despite this, individuals who had previously downloaded TikTok can still utilize the app without issue.
If you had uninstalled TikTok prior to the enforcement date, you will find it impossible to re-download the app due to its removal from the store. Moreover, there are other scenarios that could lead to losing access altogether.
Considerations for Changing Your Device
For TikTok enthusiasts, maintaining access to the app is crucial. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid resetting your device, replacing it through services like AppleCare+, or upgrading from older models.
In the absence of TikTok in the app store, users with iPhones will face challenges when trying to download the app again after performing a factory reset or switching devices.

Considering the iPhone 15 and 16 include USB-C charging ports, an upgrade might seem appealing.
Even if you restore your new device from an existing iCloud backup or transfer data directly from another device, the system will attempt to re-download applications from the app store. Since TikTok is unavailable, this process will fail.
Attempting to install TikTok on a new device will yield an error message stating: “Unable to install TikTok. The app is no longer available in the App Store.” Users will then have the option to keep the app icon or remove it.
Currently, there is no indication of when Apple and Google might reinstate TikTok and other ByteDance-owned apps to their app stores. Rest assured, we will provide updates on this situation as it develops.
