Mark your calendars for July 22, 2025, as the highly anticipated launch of Abiotic Factor’s 1.0 update is finally here. With a host of new features, items, traders, and the addition of the final chapter, many players are curious about the fate of their existing save files. How will these updates impact your gameplay?
Do you need to take any precautions before updating? Is restarting a game advisable? Can you carry over your previous save? Let’s explore all these questions and more!
Will Your Existing Save File Work After the Update?

In short, yes, you can load your previous save file when Abiotic Factor launches its 1.0 update. However, be aware of certain crucial changes, especially if you’ve invested a lot of time in the game.
Before making the switch to the 1.0 version, ensure you remove any pests from traps and wheels. Pets that remain in cages will be lost during the update, making it essential to clear them out beforehand.
If you have already updated or reinstalled the game after the update, you will need to acquire new pests, as your old ones won’t transition to the new version.
Additionally, players who have skinks are advised to let their pets roam freely or keep them in their inventory, as they may also be lost in the update process.
Lastly, be prepared for a revision to your Teleporter tags. Existing tags will be changed to fixed labels from Alpha to Zulu (A-Z).While this allows for better organization of your teleporters, remember that you can only have 26 in total. If you exceed this limit prior to the update, multiple teleporters will be categorized as “Zulu.”
Should You Start Fresh with the 1.0 Launch?

Geoff Keene, the Design Director for Abiotic Factor, shared his insights on the upcoming changes:
Hey Scientists!
We’ve made a lot of balance and quality of life updates from the start of the game to the end, as well as some more lore and craftable items throughout the game. A big one includes the Enhancement Bench, which lands around Manufacturing tier. This will definitely be a large change to how you fight and what you make around this part of the game. Starting a new world save when 1.0 lands will give you a more “intended” playthrough with more tools at your disposal, but if you don’t want to do that, that’s fine too. I’m not going to make you do anything. I’m not your dad.
While the tone may be humorous, it’s a valid concern for players with lengthy run times, as restarting a playthrough exceeding 50 hours can feel daunting. Having experienced games like Satisfactory and Factorio during their major updates, it can indeed be bittersweet initially.
However, with newfound knowledge and gameplay mechanics, a fresh start often leads to a smoother and more enjoyable experience. As Keene noted, significant balancing and quality-of-life improvements have been introduced, particularly within the Manufacturing tier. This creates a potential mismatch for seasoned players who might find new items underwhelming if they are already advanced in the game.
Given the multitude of enhancements, starting anew is strongly recommended. There’s much to explore and enjoy with the fresh content upon launch!
