Controversial streamer Johnny Somali, whose real name is Ramsey Khalid Ismael, faces yet another significant legal challenge that could result in mandatory incarceration, according to a legal expert closely monitoring his case.

Since November 2024, following his arrival in South Korea, Somali has encountered numerous legal issues. Initially, he was charged with Obstruction of Business due to disruptive behavior at a 7-Eleven while live streaming. This was compounded by two additional counts from the Minor Crimes Act, linked to obscene acts involving a dead fish on a bus and inappropriate behavior on a subway.

Legal troubles have escalated for Somali, with indications of yet another Obstruction of Business charge on the horizon. A legal expert, known as ‘Legal Mindset’, has indicated that further complications could be on their way, which may involve an obligatory prison sentence.

Johnny Somali’s Legal Woes and Potential Sentencing

On March 27, 2025, the Seoul-based lawyer explained the implications of a fifth charge that has come to light, merging it officially into Somali’s ongoing legal battles. This charge, as outlined by the legal expert, comes with “mandatory prison time with no option for a fine, ” alluding to Somali’s likely inevitable incarceration.

According to Legal Mindset, the new charge pertains to the creation of AI Deepfakes. In a specific incident, Somali produced a deepfake involving popular Korean streamer BongBong, which depicted a fabricated romantic scene between them. Recent court documents shared during his stream revealed a serious nature of the accusations, citing a violation of the “Special Act on the Punishment, etc.of Sexual Violence Crimes (false video material, etc.).”

Legal Mindset clarified, “This falls under a sex crime, ” indicating that upon a guilty verdict—regardless of a plea—Somali would be classified as a sex offender globally.

He further explained that this situation is exacerbated under Korean law, where any portrayal resembling sexual acts, such as French kissing, is considered a sexual offense. The unauthorized distribution of such AI-generated content is illegal; thus, Somali’s actions have compounded his legal troubles significantly.

The legal ramifications extend further since streaming such content for profit could lead to a potential prison sentence of up to seven years, especially as Somali utilized platforms like Discord for distribution.

“Johnny Somali is receiving an aggravated sentence because he streamed the content, ” noted Legal Mindset, emphasizing the premeditated nature of his actions.

Currently, Johnny Somali is preparing for a second court appearance scheduled for April 9, following his unawareness of the second Obstruction of Business charge. His situation is compounded further by the most recent charges, which could extend his stay in South Korea significantly.

Despite his legal predicaments, he did plead guilty to the first Obstruction of Business charge and the two counts from the Minor Crimes Act during a publicly intoxicated court appearance on March 7.
