In a recent statement, Alex Hernandez, the lead actor of “MindsEye, ”addressed the backlash following the game’s turbulent launch, expressing his deep understanding of the frustration felt by gamers.
“MindsEye, ”developed by Build a Rocket Boy—founded by former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies—had a rocky debut. Currently, it holds the notable distinction of being the lowest-scoring game of the year on MetaCritic, with a dismal score of 38 based on 12 reviews.
The majority of this low score can be attributed to a multitude of bugs that marred the gameplay experience at launch. While some such glitches are trivial, others have significantly diminished the overall enjoyment. Critics have likened the problematic launch to that of Cyberpunk 2077, where PlayStation was compelled to issue refunds due to extensive issues.
In light of the unfavorable reception, continuous negative news has emerged, including layoffs at the development studio. Amidst this turmoil, Hernandez has broken his silence to address the community’s concerns.
MindsEye Actor Acknowledges Community Concerns
In an interview with Check It TV, Hernandez candidly discussed the complicated reception of the game, highlighting his identification as a gamer and a fellow consumer. He acknowledged, “As a gamer myself, I completely understand the frustration. As a consumer, there’s a shared frustration. Why would you, as a company, release something that seemed to not be ready in that way?”
He further emphasized the long-term ramifications of releasing an incomplete product, stating, “I think it does more long-term harm than good to release something that feels like it’s in a state that’s less than 100%, and charge 100% of the price.”

Much of the game’s criticism has centered on its gameplay mechanics, rather than its storyline. However, despite the unfavorable reception, Hernandez reflects positively on his experience, praising the dedicated team he worked alongside.“I loved working on it. The cast was great, everyone showed up and gave their all. I had a blast.”
He acknowledged the immense challenges involved in game production, remarking, “Games are hard to produce. It’s a really huge undertaking to get one off the ground at all. I’m proud of the people that I worked with, and it’s a shame the gameplay, in particular, has received such negative feedback.”
Interestingly enough, Hernandez has not shied away from humorously acknowledging some of the game’s more notorious glitches that have made their rounds on social media.“In terms of the story and the cinematics, there are a couple of glitches I find amusing. Turning into some weird creature. I love that stuff.”
