Nintendo Announces Battery Fix for Switch 2, However Other Issues Persist

On June 5, Nintendo launched the highly anticipated Switch 2, which has quickly gained popularity among gamers. However, as with many new hardware releases, early users have encountered a set of technical challenges.

As more players dive into their new consoles, reports of various technical issues have begun to emerge, particularly concerning the lithium-ion battery. These issues range in severity, but one of the most notable pertains to the battery charge indicator displaying incorrect information.

Troubleshooting the Battery Charge Indicator on Switch 2

Nintendo has provided users with a detailed guidance document to resolve the battery indicator issue. Users should be aware that this process may need to be repeated multiple times for optimal results.

Verify that your console is running the latest system update.
Adjust all three Auto-Sleep mode settings to Never.
- To set Auto-Sleep mode settings:
  1. Navigate to System Settings from the HOME Menu.
  2. Select Sleep Mode from the left sidebar.
  3. Change “Auto-Sleep (Playing on System Screen), ” “Auto-Sleep (Connected to TV), ” and “Auto-Sleep (Playing Media Content)” settings to Never.
Plug the AC adapter directly into the console.
Fully charge the console until the battery reaches 100%, or keep it plugged in for at least three hours.
Disconnect and let the console sit, still connected to the charger, for an additional hour.
After an hour, unplug the console and allow it to display the HOME Menu for about three to four hours.
- Ensure the battery level is nearly depleted.
Power down the console once the battery is low and leave it off for a minimum of 30 minutes.
Repeat steps 3 to 6 several times.
- This repetition should help improve the accuracy of the battery charge indicator gradually.

Concerns About Bulging Rear Casing

Beyond the battery indicator issue, reports have surfaced regarding the back casing of the Switch 2 becoming deformed. Images shared online since the console’s release have shown this unusual bulging.

The deformation seems to be linked to the positioning of the lithium-ion battery located on the right side of the console. It remains uncertain whether the bulge is due to battery swelling or a manufacturing defect. In one discussion on the Nintendo Switch subreddit, a user reported noticing this issue immediately after unboxing their device.

The user shared, “Just got my brand new Switch 2 delivered today and noticed the back panel was slightly bulging, ” adding that they contacted Nintendo for clarification. The company confirmed that the issue appeared to be related to a swollen battery and advised the user to turn off the console, rebox it, and return it promptly due to potential fire risks.

Currently, Nintendo’s support resources do not provide specific guidance on handling the bulging casing or the concerns surrounding faulty batteries. As such, users experiencing these issues are encouraged to reach out to Nintendo for further assistance.
