While an official plot synopsis remains under wraps, the trailer reveals that Happy Gilmore has hit a rough patch and is returning to the tournament circuit to fund his daughter’s ballet education. The film also introduces a new, somewhat clueless caddy named Oscar, and rekindles the iconic rivalry with Shooter McGavin, played once again by Christopher McDonald.

Tragically, the passing of Carl Weathers, who was crucial to the original story as Happy’s mentor, Chubbs, required significant changes to the script. Sandler shared with Collider that, “we made a lot of nice references to how great Chubbs was in the movie. That was the biggest change.” In a touching nod to the character, Chubbs’ son, portrayed by Lavell Crawford of Breaking Bad fame, will make an appearance in the sequel.
