Resident Evil RE:Verse Servers Shut Down Permanently After Fulfilling Their Intended Purpose

On June 29, 2025, Capcom officially terminated the servers for Resident Evil RE:Verse, marking the end of its brief existence less than three years after its initial launch.

Initially released in 2022 as a complimentary addition to Resident Evil Village, this game aimed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the iconic franchise. Designed exclusively for online play, RE:Verse allowed gamers to engage in thrilling multiplayer experiences.

Players had the option to either embody survivors, who were charged with navigating a perilous compound full of puzzles and enemies, or assume the role of infected beings, thwarting the survivors’ escape attempts.

End of an Era

In a now-removed blog post from February 2025, Capcom shared their announcement regarding the game’s end-of-service. They conveyed:

“Resident Evil RE:Verse was developed in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil series, and your overwhelming support for the game has far exceeded our expectations since the time of its release.”

“Now that we’ve reached a new turning point for the series, we feel that Resident Evil Re:Verse has served its original, celebratory purpose admirably.”

Despite the optimistic messaging from Capcom, RE:Verse struggled to garner a stable player base. According to data from Steam Charts, the game peaked at just 2, 080 players shortly after its October 2022 launch. Following December 2022, the number of concurrent players dwindled to double-digit figures, signaling a sharp decline in interest.

As is common with games nearing the end of their life cycle, RE:Verse witnessed a notable 264% increase in player interest during its final 24 hours; however, this surge only resulted in a peak of 86 players.

The game experienced a 200% rise in players on its last day, reaching a peak of 91.

It is worth noting that Steam Charts continues to record online players, likely due to some individuals keeping the game active on the title screen, which is counted as engagement.

While we bid farewell to RE:Verse, the broader Resident Evil franchise remains robust. Capcom has consistently introduced critically acclaimed titles, maintaining the series’ popularity. Fans are optimistic for future releases, particularly with the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem set to debut next year.
