When embarking on your adventure in Fellowship with a new character, you’re essentially starting from the ground up. You’ll begin without any equipped gear, which means your early gameplay will revolve around acquiring essential equipment during your initial dungeon runs.

Getting a solid gear foundation can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re unsure where to begin. This guide presents effective strategies to help you swiftly enhance your gear and make significant progress in Fellowship.

As you play a new character, most of your gear slots will be empty, with items at a scant Item Level 1. This lack of equipment means gaining gear is your primary focus.

Upon completing the tutorial, you will arrive at the Stronghold, where shop access allows you to gear up. The primary choices for early gear acquisition are Quickplay and Challenge (Ranked) modes.

In Quickplay, you can freely select your desired role and join a random party for spontaneous dungeon explorations. Successful completion of these dungeons rewards you with Supplies and Marks of Fellowship—particularly useful for purchasing Item Level 15 gear, which aids in filling your essential gear slots.

Your character will need to collect a total of 14 gear pieces, which include Head, Shoulder, Back, Chest, Hands, Legs, Feet, Neck, Wrist, Ring, Ring 2, Relic, Relic 2, and Weapon.

This extensive list highlights the importance of acquiring Supplies through Quickplay, making it a vital starting point for maximally outfitting every gear slot.

However, for those seeking optimal gear early on, the advised strategy is to leap into **Challenge** mode, diving into Contender 1, 2, or 3 dungeons. While Contender 3 poses a greater challenge compared to Quickplay, it yields much better rewards.

By participating in Contender 3, you can earn a random Item Level 30 gear piece along with some gold and a chance for further Marks of Fellowship—resource essentials that you’ll need for future upgrades and developments.

Importantly, every item piece can undergo upgrades, potentially reaching a higher Item Level depending on its rarity. For instance, gear from Contender levels (marked green) allows for up to eight upgrades, culminating at Item Level 120.

Even the basic Item Level 15 equipment purchased from vendors can be enhanced to Item Level 120, provided you have sufficient gold. Since Quickplay does not reward gold, focusing on Challenge or Ranked dungeons is your best option for progression.

There is a slim chance of acquiring legendary gear once you reach the Champions tier.

Some weapons are character-specific; likewise, legendary items are tailored to individual characters and include unique effects that align with their abilities. For instance, obtaining a legendary item for Sylvie will offer special effects enhancing some of her skills, potentially leading to a unique build tailored for her strengths.

Effective Strategies for Acquiring High-Quality Gear in Fellowship

Your main strategy should revolve around tackling the highest dungeon difficulty available via Challenge mode. Initially, while gearing up, you will queue up for dungeons within the Contender 1-3 range.

To progress to more challenging tiers, it’s crucial to boost both your Item Level and your Dungeon Rating. Therefore, always opt for the hardest available dungeon whenever you queue.

Be aware that with 14 gear slots to fill, luck plays a significant role in obtaining the necessary upgrades. This is where the Scrapper and Blacksmith come into play.

As you start acquiring duplicate items for your gear slots, scrap these duplicates with the Scrapper to gather gold, which can be valuable for upgrades.

Since filling every gear slot can be quite challenging, plan to visit Quartermaster Novak to purchase Item Level 15 gear pieces, allowing you to enhance your overall setup using the gold you collected.

It’s wise to focus upgrades on pieces capped at Item Level 60 initially. The cost for these upgrades increases significantly at higher tiers, so refrain from overinvesting in gear that will eventually be replaced.

If you choose to upgrade an item, aim for those featuring optimal secondary stats aligning with your build, ensuring it becomes an irreplaceable piece in your equipment.

Continue this process as you work towards completing all Capstone dungeons—an arduous challenge that typically necessitates a reliable team. Upon finishing the first Capstone dungeon, you will gain access to gear from the next tier.
