As it celebrates its first anniversary, Where Winds Meet is introducing one of its most whimsical features yet—allowing players to take on the role of a goose. This unique addition is set to bring a new level of fun and absurdity to the gameplay.
On December 17, NetEase announced the launch of a limited-time mode titled The Phantom Thief Goose for the Chinese version of the game. This standalone mode invites players to embrace the peculiar antics of the game’s notorious feathered creatures, shifting focus away from traditional martial arts and weaponry.
Experience the Feathered Mayhem
The Phantom Thief Goose mode is designed as a humorous stealth challenge where players undertake “goose-specific actions.” These include honking, pecking, and creating anxiety among any villagers who might catch sight of them—showing that these geese are not to be underestimated.
In this mode’s storyline, players start by falling asleep after organizing a celebration, only to awaken as a goose. The objective? Steal items from unsuspecting villagers while avoiding patrols and managing to escape without being spotted.
While international players will have to wait until next year to partake in this entertaining mode, many in the gaming community are already familiar with the fierce reputation of the game’s geese. Since the global launch, players have discovered that these seemingly innocent creatures often act like roaming mini-bosses, causing unexpected challenges throughout gameplay.

Embracing the goose theme for the anniversary celebration feels fitting, particularly considering the chaos these creatures have created during gameplay. Additionally, this event follows a significant update that incorporated vehicle building inspired by Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a feature that is also slated for release in the global version.
