A woman from New York has been found guilty of a shocking act of violence after throwing an explosive device into her boyfriend’s bedroom while he was asleep, resulting in severe injuries. This case, confirmed by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, revolves around an incident that escalated from a heated argument on March 2024.

According to a press release, 35-year-old Keyonna Waddell, a resident of Deer Park, was convicted by a jury of first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon. The troubling scenario began when the couple had an argument in the victim’s apartment. Following a brief separation, the man returned home, thinking the conflict had been resolved, and fell asleep.

An Explosion of Violence

The victim was jolted awake by a “hissing sound” and soon noticed a burning object on his bedroom floor, which officials described as resembling a stick of dynamite. In a desperate attempt to neutralize the threat, he tried to remove the explosive, but tragically, it detonated in his hand, leading to severe injuries.

Following the explosion, the victim was rushed to the hospital. Medical professionals had to perform an amputation, removing the remaining portion of his hand and part of his arm due to the extent of the injuries. Further complicating the case, prosecutors revealed that Waddell had previously threatened to use dynamite against her boyfriend in the months leading up to the incident, indicating a troubling pattern of escalating violence.

Waddell was arrested the day after the incident and now faces a potential prison sentence of up to 25 years. Sentencing is scheduled for May 27, 2026, and authorities are emphasizing the gravity of her crimes.
